Yesterday we hosted our first all-day Beginners Workshop for new online instructors, and as part of our information we talked about making a brief welcome video. I had made one, so we played it to the group.

As I was watching myself, I was thinking, “this is really bad…I look so serious” at the same time as my colleague Pilar was saying “make it light! you’re not reporting the news!” I decided to redo on campus today instead of at my desk, but I forget so I did it using my laptop at a stoplight on the drive home after a miserable orientation:

I’m removing the first one and putting this one on my classes. (They’re small because they’re going in a tiny Moodle box.)
Sometimes even informal is too formal.
