Thank you. I like to remember, "it is always easier to apologize than to ask for permission". Doing what you feel is right from a place of authentic awareness is what is is all about. "the best way to get an idea to spread is to just show it working" - In my experience this is never off the beaten track - it is the stuff that role modeling is made of. Unsolicited suggestion: Be mindful of your successes and the positive things that you are doing, and limit your focus on what is either not done or left to be done. I've been irritated by the misappropriation of that term by the media recently to describe things happening in that new-system-same-as-the-old-system made up of company-employed people. To the extent that we need any kind of label, church, rallying cry, club, I think it's just that. We do what we have to do as educators to empower the learners for whom we are responsible (including ourselves) using the best tools available. No revolution required beyond that. I guess I had to take a break from posting but I didn't realize it had gotten this bad. Anyways, there is a certain sense of accomplishment when you subvert the system that you're in. Not only that but when you do that there seems to be a greater sense of respect from your colleagues. If you're paid for the work you're doing then you're seen as that person who is just trying to justify their job by trying to put some thing else on the over worked teacher's plate. I agree entirely that we can't become a "True Believer" with out looking like a crazy. If we start talking about a revolution in teaching that needs to happen now older teachers will look at us like we are crazy and then disregard everything that is said after our first sentence. The scary part of education is that we can change things but we won't see the actual consequences of that change until years later. So when the teachers who are more set in their ways start questioning what we are doing I know I appreciate it as we need people who dissent on both sides so we can find a balance of some sort.
