I’m not sure what this is, exactly, but I was inspired by the Cinemagraphs that had some things that moved and others that didn’t. So I wanted Audrey Hepburn to stay still while the traffic went by behind her.

Got the footage from YouTube and exported into 8 frames using Quicktime, then used GIMP to add a layer with Ms Hepburn, and GIFNinja (my usual MakeaGif and Picasion weren’t working) to make it “animated”.

It came out a little more frenetic than I intended, but it didn’t look right at lower speeds.

Updated version with slower traffic and eyes blinking as suggested by Alan in the comments.

How it should have ended.

Done with GIMP, having fun with layers.

Or, we could take care of the problem even earlier in the story.

Littlemermaidtalk

I have given up trying to figure out which Visual Assignments these are, and I don’t have the heart to add more to the long list! :-)

What I packed http://lisahistory.net/wpds106/2012/06/05/what-i-packed/ http://lisahistory.net/wpds106/2012/06/05/what-i-packed/#comments Tue, 05 Jun 2012 19:52:00 +0000 llane http://lisahistoryds106.posterous.com/what-i-packed You can see here what I packed (except for my unmentionables which are in the Vuitton).

Packbag

Also folded so you can’t see it is this, my menu from Balthazar in Soho. I know it says they don’t deliver, but they do to me. Just in case.

Camps have dirt, and insects, and wild animals who make strange noises at night.

Here is my cabin:

Come on over if you want a shower and something real to eat. But wipe your feet first.

Animated GIF: Final Countdown http://lisahistory.net/wpds106/2012/04/06/animated-gif-final-countdown/ http://lisahistory.net/wpds106/2012/04/06/animated-gif-final-countdown/#comments Fri, 06 Apr 2012 03:17:00 +0000 llane http://lisahistoryds106.posterous.com/animated-gif-final-countdown It’s been awhile since I’ve done one, so I followed my own instructions from December 2010 to make this one. It’s my favorite scene fromThe Final Countdown (1980), where the aircraft carrier is about to get sucked into the time vortex and goes back to 1941 as Pearl Harbor is being bombed.

Thanks to Scott Lockman, who suggested on ds106 radio that this would make a good gif.

I used GIMP (still working at learning it — this was great because of the many layers of images: the Invisible Man, War of the Worlds, the Time Machine, and his own film Things to Come).

With Wells himself, ready to give us the talk through the mic, taken from a photo of him broadcasting on the BBC in 1929.

Following Alan Levine’s lead for a Splash the Color, I used GIMP to create two images, one color and one grayscale, then added the grayscale as the top layer.
