Plotagon and Gilgamesh

llane — Thu, 17 Oct 2013 21:14:00 +0000

The software is Plotagon, which is free and in beta. It was shared with me by Tom Hodgers, a member of the POT Cert class, because I was looking for a replacement for the now defunct Xtranormal. I ran it on Mac OS 10.6 even though it requires 10.7. Then I uploaded to Vimeo, until I realized they (still) don’t have captions. So I uploaded to YouTube, put in the script for the new transcribing service, and then used a special embed code (cc_load_policy=1) to force the captions to show.

I liked it enough to make it my own Video Assignment (#1225).

5 Monsters and the Women Who Love Them

Inspired by Melanie’s Librarians.

Yes, I detect a theme too.

Monster Mashup Tribute

A bit of silent film, a few monsters, and a song from Alice Cooper. I loved making this, just me and Quicktime.

Watching Movies with the Stereo On

An idea for a ds106 assignment, like when you have the TV and the stereo on at the same time, and somehow, it kinda fits.

Kagemusha / Zorba
[See post to watch QuickTime movie]
Frankenstein / Circle of Life

Kagemusha (1980), music by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (Zorba)
Frankenstein (1910), music by Elton John

Lisa & Ed’s Balboa Park Adventure

llane — Sun, 08 Apr 2012 04:50:00 +0000

We made this for ds106, but I wasn’t sure what assignment to put it under. I think it fits with Recording a Memory, even though it’s goofier than that and took more than two stars of work! Filmed with an old Aiptek 1080 camcorder on the spur of the moment, edited in iMovie, audio corrected in Audacity, music is Funkusion presents Back to Funk / Session II (Internet Archive).

Followup — added an assignment called Sardonic Tours

5 seconds, 5 leading ladies with cats

llane — Sun, 01 Apr 2012 06:36:00 +0000

For the One Archetype, Five Movies, Five Seconds assignment, I went for leading ladies with cats in classic films.

From:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961): Audrey Hepburn
Gigi (1958): Leslie Caron
Bell, Book and Candle (1958): Kim Novak
Bringing Up Baby (1938): Katherine Hepburn
The Pink Panther (1963): Claudia Cardinale

I used similar techniques to Alan Levine’s 5 cops in 5 seconds, taking clips from YouTube and using iMovie to make this.

The stupid thing is, Posterous won’t accept my video files anymore, regardless of codec. Or rather, it accepts them, but won’t convert them. I may be moving to WordPress. Anyway, I had to upload to YouTube to get the embed.
