{"id":73,"date":"2008-01-29T21:02:38","date_gmt":"2008-01-29T21:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/?p=73"},"modified":"2008-01-29T21:02:38","modified_gmt":"2008-01-29T21:02:38","slug":"the-20-fear-factor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/2008\/01\/the-20-fear-factor\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2.0 Fear Factor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having just finished editing my opinion piece on how CMSs limit pedagogy, I happen to find Fear 2.0, currently being discussed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/ELI081\" target=\"_blank\">EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative Conference<\/a> in San Antonio, in a session entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/content.asp?page_id=13300&amp;PRODUCT_CODE=ELI081\/SESS25&amp;bhcp=1\" target=\"_blank\">Who&#8217;s Afraid of Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and the Big Bad CMS? A Digi-Drama About Fear 2.0<\/a>&#8221; All the media is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachinglearningresources.com\/fear.html\" target=\"_blank\">posted here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Several videos were part of this project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <a href=\"http:\/\/cluttermuseum.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leslie Madson-Brook<\/a> created a <a href=\"http:\/\/teachinglearningresources.com\/fear.html\" target=\"_blank\">Voicethread video<\/a> that sets up a classical analogy\n<li>a YouTube video by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marthaburtis.net\/wrapping\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martha Burtis<\/a> called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Wfv7smXyccs\" target=\"_blank\">Fear 2.0: Are We Stagnating?<\/a> really rang a bell, with its image of students snoozing in front of the CMS. Martha has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marthaburtis.net\/wrapping\/2007\/12\/05\/bring-us-your-fear\/\" target=\"_blank\">blogged about her whole panel&#8217;s presentation.<\/a> on this issue &#8212; very enlightening.\n<li>Laura Blankenship&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=F14-5LC3cBs\" target=\"_blank\">Fear 2.0: Institutional Fear<\/a> refers to Pandora&#8217;s Box.\n<li>Barbara Ganley&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2QdH70_nuVQ\" target=\"_blank\">Teacher Fear<\/a> features an internal dialogue of teachers and students.<\/ul>\n<p>Although I&#8217;ve been promoting playing on the web, it never occurred to me that fear was related to anything other than security issues (school admins blocking websites, etc.). Although I do not yet live a full 2.0 life like some of these amazing innovators, I can see how fear of a number of things can be factors in stagnation: fear of change, democracy, looking stupid, losing control, freedom.
