{"id":3175,"date":"2015-08-02T18:40:42","date_gmt":"2015-08-03T02:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/?p=3175"},"modified":"2025-08-18T13:21:40","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T20:21:40","slug":"canceling-the-experiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/2015\/08\/canceling-the-experiment\/","title":{"rendered":"Canceling the experiment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, only one day later, following the completion of the zillions of questions I wrote for the activities, I am canceling the experiment (see previous posts on <a href=\"https:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/2015\/07\/the-jekyll-and-hyde-experiment\/\" target=\"_blank\">the experiment<\/a> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/2015\/08\/challenges-of-the-experiment\/\" target=\"_blank\">challenges<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>I think the last straws were:<br \/>\n1. The photo of a Gay Rights poster that said, \u201cGay is NOT a choice\u201d with a caption that talked about being gay as a \u201csexual preference\u201d,<br \/>\n2. The lack of text transcript for any of the songs or speeches, including Woman by Nikki Giovanni and Angela Davis\u2019 audio from prison,<br \/>\n3. Trying to overlook spelling and grammar errors that I&#8217;d mark if they were on a student&#8217;s paper,<br \/>\n4. Pearson throwing all the assignments (over 1,000) into the Blackboard grade book, instead of the ones I\u2019ve assigned, with no option to just use those (the two options were \u201call\u201d or \u201cselect\u201d, meaning one at a time),<br \/>\n5. Discovering that Mac OS (10.6 or 10.9) running Chrome won&#8217;t work with Blackboard because of Java issues, so I have to use Firefox, and<br \/>\n6. Realizing I have just lost over a week to this that I could have spent improving my own materials.<\/p>\n<p>So, alas, no cool article comparing artisan courses to canned courses.
