{"id":1543,"date":"2023-08-27T12:50:52","date_gmt":"2023-08-27T19:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grousablebooks.com\/?p=1543"},"modified":"2023-08-27T12:50:52","modified_gmt":"2023-08-27T19:50:52","slug":"rest-a-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisahistory.net\/wordpress\/2023\/08\/rest-a-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"Rest: a poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Sensing autumn in the air<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">the sap wonders whether it\u2019s time to pull back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It hesitates, leaving some leaves green and others brown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A striped hawk comes looking for an errant mouse,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">an inattentive lizard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Each season was once anticipatory<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">spring the prelude to glorious summer<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">winter holding out with chill<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">for far too long, every time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Fall was once a painful season<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">fateful birthdays, students pressured, a tumor removed<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">having overgrown in the enthusiasm of summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Now it is a promise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rest, a moving inward, a calm<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">pulling growth down into a bowl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Autumn in its dryness<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">wants moisture and desiccated bird seed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The fledglings gone, the herbs paused<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">the sunlight coming sideways<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">as if trying to peek in one last time as the door closes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sweaters in the dryer emerging free of dust<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">blankets fluffed, ready to serve<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">electric heaters taken apart screw by screw<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">to clean them out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sensing autumn in the air the sap wonders whether it\u2019s time to pull back.
