Bakku-shan

A word from Alan Levine’s Words with No English Translation, Bakku-shan means “The experience of seeing a woman who appears pretty from behind but not from the front”. The very first thing that occurred to me was Steve Martin playing Barbara Stanwyck’s character in Double Indemnity, from Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (the movie that invented the mashup, as far as I’m concerned). She looked just like Barbara Stanwyck from behind, but…

I love that you used a movie to illustrate the concept; Martin’s butt view would surely generate a sense of Bakku-shan

When they filmed from behind, it really was Stanwyck, so it’s kinda the ultimate Bakku-shan. :-)

Martin is a great comic genius, and this is a great reminder as well as imaginative use of the word. I’m thinking, too, of Dustin Hoffman as Tootsie and Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire!

He looks so lovely from up front as well, I’m not sure what you’re talking about. And Sandy’s comment has stumbled upon a great idea for the ds106 triple troll assignment.
