How to use your textbook

textbookYour textbook for this class is unusual in that it has two-page spreads rather than full chapters, and very small print. It features up-to-date scholarship and extensive visuals.

I need a reading glass for this book -- you might consider a full-page magnifier or a more portable scroller.

Although it is not indicated in the Table of Contents, there are two types of spreads in this book.

Those pages with white background are the main textbook. They take the story chronologically, like a narrative. Read these carefully for content, and examine maps carefully. A significant number of multiple-choice questions on quizzes are based on these pages.

Those with coloured background are features. We will use features as a foundation for source collection, writing and discussion in the forums.

The book features extensive images, maps and drawings. Any images of items from the era under discussion may be used as primary sources for collection in the forums.
